Radiation Therapy : The Other Side

The next step was to have a prosthetic bone replacement made to match the void in skull.

This was performing a 3D scan of my head, then building a mould of my skull from this scan, layer by layer. Once complete it was just a matter using this mould to create an exact replica of the missing bone.

Then raising the flap (taken from leg during the last operation) on my head and sliding the prosthesis underneath. This was done by slicing around the old scar, leaving enough attached to keep the blood flowing to the flap so it wouldn't die. At the same time removing some fatty tissue so my head wouldn't look as bulky.

All that was left to do was throw in a few staples & back to the ward to recover.

A far less complicated procedure than the previous one.
